Oral Health

Keeping your teeth and mouth healthy

There are preventative steps we can all take to promote good oral health and prevent the need for specialist dental intervention, including tooth extraction.

The Oral Health Foundation highlights three key messages, all of which go a long way in helping us develop and maintain a healthy mouth.

They are:

  • Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
  • Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.

For advice and guidance on dental registration in your area, call the Dental Helpline. The dental helpline is a service designed to offer dental advice and/or appointments for urgent dental treatment.

The dental helpline number is 0300 123 7691.  Alternatively you can email dentist4u@sompar.nhs.uk

The Oral Health Foundation leads National Smile Month. It is the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral health.

The aim of National Smile Month is to ultimately improve the UK’s oral health. Organised by oral health charity, the Oral Health Foundation, the campaign hopes to raise awareness of important health issues, and make a positive difference to the oral health of millions.
